As the hegemonic powers of the Old Continent began expanding their borders, they exported the villa model, complete with garden annex, to the lands they conquered. Some colonies had no specific construction history, while others developed artistic and cultural traditions. The intermingling gave way to a variety of forms, all but a few cast from the Roman and Renaissance matrix. This book offers a rich illustrated catalogue highlighting this legacy.
